Data Collection and Public Opinion on Trends and Attitudes Towards Refugees in Bordering Territories
Challenge
What are the current trends in the reception and integration of Ukrainian refugees and asylum seekers in the EU’s neighboring countries? What are the territorial impacts and the responses in terms of policies and resources related to the arrival of refugees from Ukraine in these border countries?
Solution
An online survey was conducted to measure emerging opinions and trends, in 2 phases six months apart, to capture 2 distinct moments: the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the peak of the confrontation.
The study analyzed ongoing trends related to refugee reception and the territorial and organizational impacts this phenomenon has brought. It included a behavioral experiment using conjoint analysis to measure the attitudes of local populations toward refugees with different cultural, behavioral, and social backgrounds.
The output included a quality control phase for the data collected, metadata & paradata analysis, and the application of a data weighting system.
Insight
These steps enabled us to assist the Commission in the analysis phase, helping to identify current trends, behaviors, drivers and barriers related to the reception of Ukrainian refugees.
